HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Draft Wills can usually be prepared within 7-10 days of initial appointment unless there is an emergency – e.g. ahead of a holiday or in the event of poor health.

For the purposes of administering the estate of a deceased person, if there is no tax payable on the estate, Grant of Representation is usually available about 10 working days after application is submitted to the Probate Registry.

If Inheritance Tax is payable on an estate this will involve discharging tax liability before the Probate Registry is able to seal the Grant. The Probate Registry will once again be able to issue the Grant approximately 10 working days after receipt of relevant papers and upon receiving confirmation of payment of Inheritance Tax from HMRC. To the extent that we are dependent on a third party (HMRC) it is difficult to provide a time estimate and at times there are delays at HMRC.
